King: An Unstoppable Three-Legged GSP Seeks A Forever Home

Imagine an Animal Control Officer finding and bringing a German Shorthaired Pointer to an animal shelter kennel, his leg shattered and dangling, his future uncertain. He was likely hit by a car, a devastating accident that could have cost him his life. Thankfully, it didn't. But it left him with an irreparable leg. This injury often leads to euthanasia in crowded shelters.

California GSP Rescue received a desperate call for help. Without immediate intervention, King's fate was sealed. Most shelters, facing limited resources, cannot afford extensive surgeries. Dogs with severe injuries like King's are often euthanized.

Ray and Irene, our two devoted volunteers, quickly responded and rescued King from the shelter. They met Peggy, another dedicated volunteer, who helped transport, and later would take King to Dr. Kang for an important evaluation. The diagnosis was clear: amputation was the only option.

King's Journey from Despair to Triumph:

When King arrived, his shattered leg was a stark reminder of his traumatic experience. Yet, even in his pain, King's spirit shone through. He was a "lover," a "kisser," and had a "nice waggy tail." His resilience was remarkable.

The amputation was a success, and King's recovery has been nothing short of phenomenal. He's a testament to the GSP breed's inherent strength and adaptability. He was "unstoppable" even with a shattered leg, and now, with only three legs, he is "not missing a beat."
