Sienna Is Adopted!

Sienna with Shelly and Natalie

Shelly and Natalie applied to adopt an adult dog after their beloved GSP, Toby passed away. They were repeat adopters, and knew the breed well, and were ready to adopt again. We had one challenge. They had 3 cats. While it is not impossible for a GSP to co-habitate with a cat, it isn’t easy to find one that will, but Shelly and Natalie were willing to wait as long as it took.

Sienna was surrendered to us at 7 years old, by no fault of her own. Sienna had been given to the boyfriend of the daughter of the mother who contacted us. They had moved into a condo and couldn't keep her. Her mother reached out to us to help find her a home. Poor girl had been tossed around quite a bit it seems. We were dedicated to help Sienna find her people who would love her and give her a forever home.

As we got to know Sienna, we learned what an amazing dog she was. A beautiful liver roan GSP who was house trained and crate trained. She loved going on walks, but was also happy laying with you watching TV. She got along with other dogs, and the best part… She lived with cats!

We tested her with the resident cat just to be sure, and she passed with flying colors! The adoption counselor who was working with Shelly and Natalie couldn’t wait to tell them that we had a possible fit for them, and they dropped everything, and came out right away to meet her. They fell in love with Sienna, which we knew they would, and she did indeed find her forever home.

“Natalie and I lost our GSP, Toby, in August of last year. We were devastated, but knew when the time came, that we would contact CA GSP Rescue for another GSP because of our love of the breed.

In December the house became too lonely, and we decided that we were ready, so we reached out to Greg and Teri. Finding just the right GSP for us was not going to be easy, however, as we have three cats. Unless a GSP has been socialized around cats, they usually don’t get along well with them.

We discussed this with Greg and Teri, and it was decided that we would wait for a GSP that was probably an owner surrender that had lived with a cat. Come February we got the call that Sienna had been turned in, had lived with cats, and was available. We went to meet her right away! It was love at first sight! From the minute she arrived at our home, it was as if she had always lived there.

From day one she got along with all three cats perfectly. Sienna just tuned 8 in May and is a little more calm than a younger GSP would be, which is something that we were looking for, and works well with our lifestyle. She is very smart, responsive, playful, happy, and one of the sweetest dogs that we have ever met. If we had a checklist for dog characteristics that we wanted in our perfect dog, she would check every single box. We can’t understand why someone would have needed to surrender such an amazing dog, but we sure are glad that we are the ones that get to give her a loving home for the rest of her life.

We are so thankful for Greg and Teri at CA GSP Rescue and their amazing ability to match up so many families to so many dogs. We’re also thankful for all the volunteers at CA GSP Rescue that keep this organization running doing this very important work”.

Thank you Shelly and Natalie for adopting an older dog, and for waiting patiently for just the right one. We are pretty certain, the wait was worth it!
