Sarge and Boss Hog Are Safe!

Sarge and Boss Hog

What do you do when two separate animal shelters in distress call for help? The California GSP Rescue was faced with just that dilemma a few weeks ago. Animal Control Officer Donald reached out for assistance with a stray German Shorthaired Pointer, and the Volunteers at California GSP Rescue sprang into action. Two days before the planned rescue and transport, another animal shelter over a hundred miles away requested help with an owner-relinquished GSP. Volunteer Ken and his son Nick stepped up to transport Boss Hog, the first GSP, and Volunteer Greg made plans to save Sarge from the second shelter.

Boss Hog earned his name for his relaxed demeanor during the journey from the animal shelter to California GSP Rescue, but don't be fooled. At heart, he's a playful pup who loves to destroy his dog toys. On the other hand, Sarge amazed Greg with his well-behaved demeanor and impressive "sit" at just under two years old. It's heartbreaking to see dogs like Sarge surrendered to animal shelters, especially when the animal shelters are overcrowded and the risk of euthanasia is high. These dogs, who have so much love to give, deserve better.

This simultaneous call for help from two separate animal shelters is a sobering reminder of the dire pet overpopulation crisis. Rescues like California GSP are a crucial lifeline for these overcrowded shelters, thanks to the selfless actions of Volunteers and Rescue Heroes. If you want to make a difference in the lives of pups in need, consider volunteering or becoming a Rescue Hero with California GSP Rescue
