Lucy And Desi Are Adopted!
Prior GSP owner Julia and her family applied to adopt a GSP. They only had previously had one GSP but had in their mind that they may like to have two. Typically we would have adopters bring one GSP home, acclimate them, then bring a second GSP home to join the first. However, in this case we happened to have two bonded GSP’s that we felt could live together. Well Julia was a lady with purpose, and had a husband and adult son that were on board with her plan. Before even coming out to meet any dog she had already bought two crates for sleeping, and was prepared and determined that Lucy and Desi were the right dogs for her home based on the discussions we had about the dogs they were meeting. Below is a very heart-warming update from Yvette after having Lucy and Desi in her home for a while now:
“We definitely won the lottery when we adopted Lucy and Desi. They are so sweet and affectionate, and make us laugh every day. They arrived crate-trained, which was a nice surprise. They love their rope toys and chew toys so much. They are also fast learners and have learned sit, down, shake and stay. They are very treat-motivated which makes training easy.
We go for a 4 mile walk every morning, rain or shine on the nature trails in our neighborhood. They love the smells and making friends with everyone who passes by. They have done really well using a harness with a front attachment for the leash, and don’t pull very much at all.
We take play breaks during the day so they can wrestle and run in the backyard, and we usually have a few training sessions in the afternoons so they can add to the tricks they know.
Lucy needs a nail trim and we are slowly getting her used to our dremel mail grinder. Treats are a great way to distract her from the dremel noise. Desi had no problem with it!
They are strong chewers so we are making sure we have a good selection of chew toys. They have had a few accidents in the house which is pretty normal for dogs getting adjusted to a new home. Both of them have learned to ring the bells hanging on the back door when they need to go out, and we make sure they go out and “go potty” on command every few hours.
Thanks for trusting us with Lucy and Desi. We are so happy to have them and are so grateful for the wonderful work the CA GSP Rescue does for all of these amazing dogs! Julia“
