Motzi And Her Pups Are Safe!
The call to animal control was an anguished plea for help as someone from the apartment complex reported stray dogs running loose. Animal Control arrived to find Motzi, the German Shorthaired Pointer mother, running frantically to avoid capture while her puppies huddled together in fear. After all avenues had been exhausted to catch Motzi, the Animal Control Officer resorted to tranquilizing her to safely capture her and bring her and her pups back to the animal shelter.
The origin of Motzi and her pups remains unknown. Despite speculation that someone dumped her, no one can confirm if her previous owner abandoned her with the puppies. Nevertheless, Motzi's unspayed status made pregnancy a certainty when she went into heat.
Motzi and her pups found themselves locked in the back kennels, hidden from public view at the animal shelter. They spent five agonizing days there, with no one coming to claim them. Once the holding period ended, the animal shelter deemed three of the pups adoptable and moved them to the public kennels. These lucky pups soon found loving homes. However, Motzi and the remaining pups were too scared to be adopted and faced an uncertain future as red-listed dogs. Any day could be their last.
Michelle, the adoption coordinator, knew the only way for Motzi and the remaining pups to survive would be to find them a rescue. Fortunately, she reached out to California GSP Rescue and pleaded for help. Volunteer Greg made plans to visit the animal shelter the next day after speaking with Michelle and learning about the situation.
Arriving, Michelle led Greg to the back kennel, where he met Motzi and her pups. Motzi and her puppies had not yet learned to trust. Only one approached Michelle and the new visitor.
A crucial moment has arrived, and action must be taken. Motzi and her pups face an uncertain future with no guarantee of tomorrow. Rescuing and finding homes for this scared mother and her pups presents a significant challenge, but Greg sees something special in them and decides to take action. He looks at Michelle and lets her know that California GSP Rescue will take Motzi and her pups - California GSP Rescue was determined to give them a chance at a better life.
California GSP Rescue has seen an influx of younger GSPs this past year. Many purchased a GSP puppy and reached out to California GSP Rescue looking for help, but others find it easier to take their "unmanageable" dog to the animal shelter or, worse, leave it for someone else to deal with their problem. Fortunately, with the help of the Rescue Heroes and adopters, California GSP Rescue has met the challenges faced. If you want to make a difference this year, consider becoming a Rescue Hero.
