Harry Is Adopted!

Chris and Judy, two time previous adopters reached out to us to adopt again after their 2nd GSP passed away. They were looking for a dog in the age range of 2-7 and were open to a male or female. They had originally applied for a female on our website, however we were concerned because she was very shy and timid, and since Chris and Judy had young grandchildren that visit often, we didn’t feel she would be the best candidate for them. They completely understood and were patient and willing to wait for the right dog for their family.

Harry was a 3 year old boy rescued from a local shelter where he had been picked up as a stray. He was on the larger size for a German Shorthaired Pointer weighing in at 70 pounds and appeared a little mellower than other GSP’s his age. Harry engaged well with other well-mannered GSP’s, but didn't express much interest in playing. Depending on the other dog(s), he could have been a candidate in a multidog home or as an only dog.

Judy and Chris were experienced GSP owners, and were very active, so we knew they would be able to manage a 3 year old GSP, so we introduced them to Harry and a couple of other dogs, but Harry was THE one! We received some updates from Judy and Chris, and it looks like Harry, now known as Ranger is happy in his new home, and boy did he hit the jackpot!

“What a fun ride we have had with the adoption of Ranger (formerly Harry).  This 100 pound 2 year old puppy has been a total joy in our lives. We knew, however, he probably wasn't a full GSP due to his size and his coloring. We also believe that's why people passed him up. (It turns out he is 50% Doberman and 50% GSP), but we loved him from the moment Greg brought him out for us to meet.

It was our third adoption from California GSP Rescue and we thought we were going to adopt a small, older female. However, Ranger chose us when he leaned right up on his future daddy and would not leave his side. He immediately jumped in the car and settled down for the drive home.  He loves car rides above all else, except for squeeky tennis balls!

Currently Ranger has passed the Intermediate Obedience training which is important for this big boy. When he's a bit older and out of puppy-hood, we may work on his becoming a therapy dog.  Needless to say, Ranger has a bright future all because we were open to seeing all the good Ranger could be in his new home!  We are forever thankful that California GSP Rescue found Ranger and introduced him to us”!
