Sam is Adopted!

We are excited to share an update on Sam, the gentle senior German Shorthaired Pointer who was rescued by California GSP Rescue after his previous owner surrendered him to a local animal shelter. When Sam first arrived, he was severely emaciated and barely had any flesh on his bones. However, with the love and care of our volunteers, Sam made an incredible transformation and quickly became a favorite of many.

Among those who fell in love with Sam were David and Scott, who inquired about him regularly. After some time, they knew that Sam was meant to be a part of their family and eagerly awaited when they could visit and adopt Sam. Read on to learn more about Sam's journey and his forever home with David and Scott.

“Sam is a gentle old soul and is getting settled into his new home and routine.  He continues to gain weight and now seems to be at an appropriate weight for his size.   He loves to go for walks and we have discovered that he is a real hunter or at least has hunting instincts.  He is wild about rabbits and birds and loves to scavenger in the underbrush on our walks.    He is not a bed sleeper, he would rather enjoy a couch or dog bed by himself.  During the day, he is a real watch dog and barks at dogs, people or golfers who might happen by.   We have discovered that Sam likes to dumpster dive in our trash and will counter surf for anything left unattended.  And he knows he is in trouble when caught as he slinks around as if he is going to be punished.

We have no idea of his background or how he ended up homeless, but he is very calm, well adjusted and seems like he was loved at sometime in his life.  We are grateful that he gets to retire and live out his golden years with us.  We are happy to have "old dog" energy in the house to balance our little 2 year old gsp girl.

We have a great dog trainer, who is helping us work with Sam and get him to understand our commands and to walk on leash without pulling.  We will shortly start working on recall so he will have more freedom and can experience more of the great outdoors.

Thank you to GSP Rescue and all the volunteers who help all of the dogs in need of new homes. Everyone we encountered made the process easy and accessible.  Sam has been such an easy dog to acclimate into our home because we knew a bit about him, his energy and requirements prior to adopting which is a huge benefit of dealing with a rescue group that understands the dogs prior to adopting them out.

To say we love Sam is an understatement. Thank you to Mariann and Greg and everyone who made this adoption possible”.

Thank you, David and Scott, for giving Sam a forever home. We know he will be loved for the rest of his days, and for that, we are forever grateful.
