Sam Is Adopted

Sam with Vicki and Eric

Sam came to us after his owner passed away. Sam was not a house dog. He spent alot of time in a kennel, and was crate trained, however, he would need house training. Sam knew his name. It was the only name he ever had. He was very responsive, smart, loved spending time with a human, getting attention, love and pets. We noticed he could be vocal if you didn't give him enough! Being an older gentleman, not requiring the amount of exercise of a younger GSP, we knew he would blend into a new family who would be able to provide Sam with a daily walk, and some time to hunt squirrels and critters. In his previous home, Sam had issues with another male, so we thought Sam would be best in a home as an only dog.

Eric and Vicki had experience with owning pointers, and after their last dog passed away, they did some traveling, and then applied with us to adopt an older female GSP in 2020. At the time we didn’t have a match for them, but they were willing to wait for a female to add to their family. They continued to wait, but then they saw Sam on our website and inquired about him. Other than the fact he was a male, he was perfect for them! There would be one challenge though. They had chickens! However, they were kept safe from a bird dog, and could be managed. They had no other dogs, had a large yard for Sam to explore, and lay in the sun, and plenty of love to give him. They came out and met Sam, and were both smitten with him, and Sam found his forever home.

“Vicki and I are both amazed and very happy that Sam’s disposition is very much like the old GSP that we had. Some of the same mannerisms and some of the same habits of going around the yard and checking things out, not being bothered by barking neighbor dogs. Not dying to get after the chickens. He pretty much comes when called. He loves to lie out in the yard in the sun in a favorite spot known to our previous dogs.

I took Sam on about a half mile walk/run the other day and he could run a lot more than I could. Maybe he'll get me in shape.

He's obviously very happy to see me even when I leave him home for a while with Vicki and go out to the store. I come back and his tail is just going a mile a minute just happy to see me. He is a very happy dog, and we are happy too.

He is very affectionate with both Vicki and I. He is going to be great with us, and will be well care for and loved”.
