Rio is Adopted!

rio_20141231Rio is Adopted! For those of you that don't know Rio's story, she was picked up as a stray and taken to a local kill shelter. Unfortunately, Rio was mis-labeled as a different breed, and the California GSP Rescue was not made aware of her. Just hours before Rio was to be euthanized, one of our volunteers that was at the shelter to look at another GSP, saw Rio and we made arrangements quickly to pull her and get her to safety. Then Rio's life took quite a turn for the better...Brent who is no stranger to rescuing dogs, applied to adopt a female older GSP to be a companion for his dog Hoback.  In fact he wanted to meet every available female senior we had.  We made an appointment for he and his son TJ and his friend, who is also his dog sitter, to come out to meet three of our senior gals and be a part of making the decision.  There was just something about Rio that caught the eye of TJ and the dog sitter friend, that they knew she was the one.  Rio, now called Alice is far from the walls of the shelter that almost killed her, and in the loving arms of her new family. One of our very favorite things to receive after an adoption is an update of the dogs acclimating in their new homes. We recently received a wonderful update on Alice that we wanted to share with you.

"Alice has been such a great addition to our family.  Being a bit older and slower, she quickly adapted to the comforts of our home and became quick buddies with Hoback, our other dog.  The foster family was wonderful and provided us her bed and food which likely helped with a smooth transition.  She loves her evening walks and hanging out with Hoback, they are getting along superbly.  She wasn't sure about the stairs at first, but now comes up every night to sleep near all of us in the bedroom.  I have dog beds throughout the house, and she has already picked out her favorite places to get cozy".As Alice begins her new life to go along with her new name, we want to say a special thank you to Brent and TJ for reaching out to rescue and giving a senior dog a happy, caring, loving home.Brent shared some photos with us that we will be sharing today on our Facebook Page.  Be sure to check them out.
