Meet Gary and Gerdi: Two Playful Pointers Rescued by California GSP Rescue

Gary and Gerdi

Gary and Gerdi, two young German Shorthaired Pointers, were rescued after being found running loose. Being under a year in age and possibly siblings, they were prone to getting into mischief if left unsupervised. It was only a matter of time before they escaped their confinement if they were left to their own devices. Fortunately, a kind-hearted individual discovered them and brought them to a no-kill animal shelter, hoping that their owner would claim them. Unfortunately, their owner never showed up, leaving the pair homeless.

While the shelter was a safe haven for Gary and Gerdi, their situation was far from ideal. The animal shelter was at capacity, and the staff faced the daunting task of finding suitable homes for the many animals in their care. Realizing that they did not have the resources to provide the specialized care that the young German Shorthaired Pointers needed, they reached out to California GSP Rescue for assistance.

Interestingly, California GSP Rescue had recently saved two other German Shorthaired Pointers, Corazon and Estrella, from a nearby shelter. Although the volunteers at the rescue did not believe that Gary and Gerdi were related to Corazon and Estrella, the young Pointers' physical appearance and age were similar to those of Jett, Philly, Ziggy, and Zola, four pups that the rescue had saved just six months earlier. Unfortunately, more and more German Shorthaired Pointers and other breeds are becoming strays, and many of their owners are not claiming them. While some dogs can be adopted from shelters, others need rescues to find suitable placements. Regrettably, dogs that cannot make it to no-kill shelters face euthanasia, which is a heart-wrenching reality that underscores the pressing need for animal rescue and adoption efforts.

Although Gary and Gerdi were safe at the no-kill shelter, the volunteers at California GSP Rescue knew that the young Pointers were taking up valuable kennel space that could be used to save another dog in need. The rescue team immediately arranged to bring the pair into their care. Volunteer David juggled his schedule to pick up Gary and Gerdi and meet Volunteer Greg, bringing the dogs one step closer to a forever home where they would be loved and cared for throughout their lives. Thanks to the efforts of California GSP Rescue and their adopters, countless GSP’s like Gary and Gerdi are given a second chance at happiness, reminding us of the importance of supporting animal rescue and adoption initiatives.
