In Memory of Sandy Rust
Recently, Sandy Rust, an adopter and California GSP Rescue Volunteer that was active in the dog world, passed away. She always found the time when asked to visit shelters and help transport dogs in need. California GSP Rescue Founder Jan Flaherty wrote the following in memory of Sandy.I met Sandy many years ago at a dog show in Palm Springs. We were both active in showing GSPs, but Sandy's first love was the obedience competition. She got CD (Companion Dog) titles on her Shorthairs when many of us despaired in getting our GSP's to pay attention to us long enough to complete the obedience exercises. She was good at it.She also thought all GSP's should hunt. She introduced me to the AKC hunt title program, helped me train my pups and get Junior Hunter titles on several of them. She went through the hunt training with all of her dogs.Showing, hunting and obedience work with her dogs kept her pretty busy, but when rally became an AKC event, Sandy was right there with all her skill and enthusiasm. I always wondered at her energy and enthusiasm. Even though she endured some chronic health problems, she seemed indestructible. With a full time job, her dogs and family, Sandy always found time to pick up a dog for us at a shelter and bring it to the kennel. She adopted several dogs from GSP Rescue, and often fostered as well. She also helped English Setter Rescue and volunteered for the Palm Springs Kennel Club.It will take several people to fill the void left by Sandy's passing, and much time to heal from the pain of losing such a dynamic person.~Jan FlahertyWe are asking for Donations in Memory of Sandy.
