In Loving Memory Of Max

Angela and Pete are long time volunteers, and adopters. They recently shared the news that they lost their Max after 12 years. While we are deeply saddened for their loss, we are grateful to them for giving Max all the unconditional love he could have ever asked for and gave him a life every dog dreams of.

Tribute to Max

I can’t begin this tribute to Max without first introducing Zoe. We adopted Zoe in 2002 from the Humane Society. We were told she was found as a stray. She was approximately 5 years old, and was a “pointer”. That is all we know but I believe she was loved in her previous life. Zoe taught us that if you allow them to, a rescue dog will give you a good home.

After the loss of Zoe in 2011 we decided to support CA GSP Rescue in her honor. We volunteered our time and became a foster family for Max, a beautiful 2 year old GSP. We brought him home after a training session in which he sat politely and leaned heavily against my leg.

Well, the foster was a failure, but the adoption was a complete success. He shared our home and family for 12 years and we said a sad and grateful goodbye to him in October 2023. He wasn’t easy. Our boy had issues, as rescue dogs often do. He was hard on me in all the ways, especially the loss of him. He was a digger, a puller, an (occasional) humper, but all was forgivable because he was also a “leaner”. Max leaned heavily into everything, everyone he loved, setting a very good example for how to live a good life.

We feel so blessed to have found him. Thank you, CA GSP Rescue for introducing us, and for the good work you do to create families.
