Fostering Confidence: Join Rumble's Story of Rehabilitation and Love

On a cool Monday morning in December, another GSP at a shelter popped up while checking emails and getting updates on a few dogs at local shelters. Unnoticed for five days, a painful GSP's image flickered on the monitor, nestled in a corner of a crate reserved for those requiring special care. The photo painted a poignant scene – a dog left to the unnoticed echoes of an overcrowded shelter. The description held just two words, yet they echoed loudly: "special needs." Possibly another injured GSP? The volunteer immediately contacted the shelter for more information.

This animal shelter was closed on Mondays, but one of the rescue coordinators monitored the inbox, saw the message, and quickly replied. Yes, the Pointer was injured and needed medical assistance due to a luxated left front elbow. He was just made available today but would need medical attention. The shelter was closed, but because he needed medical attention, arrangements could be made for the Rescue to pick him up.

With California GSP Rescue already having an appointment with Dr. Kang the next day, Volunteer Greg swiftly made plans to pick up the injured GSP the same day, ensuring he would be seen by the vet the next day. Familiar with Volunteer Greg from previous shelter visits, Ashley greeted him at the door. Handing over paperwork, she suggested parking in a no-parking zone for proximity to the door and then vanished. Ashley reappeared after Volunteer Greg relocated the car, carrying the injured GSP. She tried to help him stand, but he collapsed – overwhelmed and hurting.

Ashley gently lifted him and placed him in the back of the car, expressing gratitude for the Rescue's rapid response. Greg, in turn, thanked her for her invaluable assistance.

The next day, the GSP, now named Rumble, met with Dr. Kang. An x-ray revealed a fractured and dislocated elbow. Despite a busy surgical schedule, Dr. Kang ensured Rumble would receive the necessary surgery.

Days later, just before Christmas, Volunteer Jennifer picked up Rumble with his leg in a cast. Hindered in movement, he would spend Christmas in a foster home with Precious and Brownie. With Precious's healing, Rumble would be in good company and well cared for as he recovered, surrounded by the warmth of the holiday season.

Numerous individuals played pivotal roles in Rumble's journey, and their efforts deserve recognition. First and foremost, a heartfelt thanks goes to Ashley at the animal shelter, whose swift communication and response ensured Rumble's rapid Rescue. Dr. Kang and his dedicated staff deserve immense gratitude for their exceptional care and for ensuring Rumble received the best available medical attention. A special acknowledgment goes to Volunteer Jennifer, who navigated traffic to ensure Rumble wouldn't spend Christmas alone at the Veterinary Clinic. Appreciation extends to all the Rescue Heroes who enable California GSP Rescue to commit to dogs like Rumble.

Though still startled by loud noises, Rumble has made a remarkable recovery and is thriving. He seamlessly integrates with other foster dogs and any other dogs he encounters. Each passing day sees him grow more confident, yet he still requires someone attuned to his needs and willing to foster his confidence and trust in people. If you believe you could provide the perfect home for Rumble, we invite you to submit an application. Sharing Rumble's story can make a significant impact for those unable to adopt. Lastly, those passionate about supporting California GSP Rescue's efforts, consider becoming a Rescue Hero and contributing to the cause. Together, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of dogs like Rumble.
