in loving memory of harry
Betsy adopted Harry in 2015. Just five human years ago or thirty-five dog years. Harry and Betsy were a perfect match, and while their time together was short, Harry's thirty-five years couldn't have been any better. Betsy is a regular transporter for California GSP Rescue, and Harry accompanied her on many of her trips, helping to transport GSP’s. Recently, Betsy helped transport a dog without Harry. It's been a while since Harry passed, but you could hear the love Betsy had for Harry when she spoke of him. Her voice waivered so slightly when she said his name. Something only those that have lost a loved companion will understand. We send our heartfelt condolences to Betsy and are forever grateful for the life and love she gave Harry.
Tribute to Harry
“I have never met a kinder and sweeter gentleman than Harry. He was known as “Prince Harry” to many because he was always so well behaved and a favorite of the young guests who would visit our home. He was also known as “Harry Houdini” as he could escape from any crate as if by magic. He was truly the dog that you could take anywhere and he would happily chill out and enjoy the sights, smells and people. He got along with every dog, but truly loved people best. At the dog park he was too busy making the rounds and getting head scratches by humans to play with other dogs. He also loved his car rides because it was usually on an excursion to chase birds, get toys, or a special treat. He had a signature waddle and would trot down the street during his walks, wagging his tail with a happy go lucky attitude. He was the alpha of our home, and even our 93-pound mastiff took notice when Harry would enter the room and proceed to the most comfortable chair or couch to enjoy some lounging (he always made sure he had the first choice of seating). In the mornings, he would often sunbathe with his sister Honey by his side and the two of them would soak up the sun together.
My bond with Harry was instant. We were always together and I even would take him to the office with me so we could enjoy a long lunch walk together or a Lazy Dog date. Of course, he quickly became an office favorite. He was my patient shopping buddy and my road trip buddy on countless trips to Utah and California. Most evenings, we would curl up on the couch together and enjoy a movie or show. During the summer he and I would enjoy a swim together and although he wasn’t a huge fan of the water, he was a good sport about getting some exercise especially as he got older.
He also loved my son Winston and would spend hours in Winston’s room just sitting by his side while Winston played video games or chatted with friends. Harry made everything better with just a reassuring tail wag. Harry also tolerated wearing hats, shirts, and other accessories, and looked very handsome in a bandana. He was truly unique.
Although the loss of Harry tears me up inside, I am very lucky that I got to spend almost five and half wonderful years with him. I truly hope I could make him comfortable in his last days at home, and am very grateful to the vet at Laps of Love who assisted us at home so that Harry could have a dignified and peaceful passing. Our home is not the same without Harry as his carefree attitude is greatly missed. I am hopeful he is in his own corner of paradise where he is no longer in any pain or discomfort and he can happily chase birds and rabbits, enjoy all the greenies and puppachinos he can eat, and adored by people who can give him plenty of hugs and chest scratches until we meet again.
Rest well, sweet boy”
