Missy is safe!
California GSP Rescue first learned about Missy in February when Robin from Brittany Rescue reached out to California GSP Rescue asking if we could help a Senior Pointer in a shelter. Missy, a fourteen-year-old Pointer, had been surrendered to the shelter by her owner, requesting euthanasia. She had an abscessed growth on her leg that would need removal, but her owner felt euthanasia was the only option. California GSP Rescue let Robin know we could help.
Robin contacted the shelter immediately, letting them know that she would pull her and help transport her to California GSP Rescue. Fortunately, Robin was able to secure a grant for the surgery and have the growth removed. After nursing her back to health, she reached out to California GSP Rescue, letting us know she was ready for her forever home.
Robin reached out to Jeff, a local rescuer that helps with transports. He readily agreed to help transport this lovely senior Pointer one step closer to her forever home. Jeff made arrangements with California GSP Rescue to transport Missy halfway, while California GSP Rescue made arrangements to meet him.
Earlier this week, Jeff loaded up Missy and met a California GSP Rescue volunteer in a parking lot just off the highway. The meeting was short. Missy was led around on a leash to do her business before loading up to complete her journey. She, like most Pointers, was curious about the new smells. She sniffed and explored before loading up on the second leg of her journey.
On the next leg, she kept her head up for a short time, looking at the passing desert before curling up on her bed and taking a nap. A short time later, she would awake to a new place and smells. One step closer to her forever home.
California GSP Rescue would like to thank Robin for helping Missy, seeing she received the surgery she needed, and arranging her transport. We work with many rescues and shelters, rescuing dogs. These are invaluable relationships that help save many dogs each year. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the Rescue Heroes whose monthly help supports our efforts. Their monthly giving allows us to help rescue fourteen-year-old dogs like Missy that may not be easy to place.
