Hugo Boss: From Cruelty to Kindness

Hugo, or Hugo Boss, as he is now known, hasn't had an easy life. When he arrived at the shelter, it wasn't because someone had dumped him or he had escaped his yard and been picked up as a stray; it was because he had been confiscated in a cruelty case. Emaciated, his rib cage showed. He had a few scars that one wondered how he got. Wanting the best for him, the shelter's Rescue Coordinator reached out to California GSP Rescue for help.

Decisions about helping GSP’s confiscated from inhumane living conditions are easy decisions to make. GSP’s, like Hugo Boss, are a resilient breed. Despite the hardships he faced, Hugo Boss's spirit remained unbroken. He will blossom once placed in a home where he will get the love and attention he needs. Whatever Hugo Boss had endured, you wouldn't know. He is friendly and wiggles like a puppy when getting pets.

Getting him from the shelter, logistically, was the challenge. Fortunately, Rebecca found a few volunteers who were not just willing, but eager to take time out of their busy day to help get Hugo Boss one step closer to his forever home. Their dedication and selflessness are truly commendable. Dara started the long relay early in the morning, picking up Hugo Boss from the shelter. She then jumped in her car and drove an hour and a half to meet Brenda in Goleta. Brenda would brave the weekend traffic, and then drive an hour to meet David in Agoura Hills. David would also deal with some traffic as he went over an hour and a half to meet Greg in Ontario.

Greg and David spent a little time in the dog park getting to know Hugo Boss. Both were amazed at how sweet and affectionate he was after what he had been through. He soaked up the pets and love like a sponge. David knew from experience that dogs like Hugo Boss were the best pets to adopt as they would appreciate the home where they received everything they had been denied. David also knew Hugo Boss was about to embark on the last leg of the journey that would take him closer to his forever home, a home where he would bring joy and love.

While Hugo Boss was just recently rescued, we know that he is an exceptional GSP. He has done well in his few interactions with other dogs and has no issues with people. He seems to know that if people don't have treats, they can give him pets! His adaptability and friendly nature make him a perfect companion for any loving home.
