A Tale of Tails: Sheherazade, A Rescued Dog's Story

Sheherazade, a name that might seem a bit grand for such a small dog, is a truly unique soul. The first image California GSP Rescue received of her was reminiscent of our previous rescues, Lunalu and Shadow. But upon meeting her, it was clear she was a one-of-a-kind dog with her own set of endearing traits and quirks that will surely captivate your heart.

When we received word that a 'GSP' had been picked up and taken to an animal shelter, we knew she would be held for at least five days. Last-minute notifications of dogs facing imminent euthanasia can be challenging for an all-volunteer organization. But, even with five days, we were determined to find an available volunteer to rescue this precious girl. Fortunately, some volunteers are nothing less than angels.

Irene and Ray, dedicated volunteers at California GSP Rescue, were ready to step in. When no one came to claim Sheherazade, a message was sent to Irene asking when she could make the trip to the shelter. Irene's unwavering dedication to the cause was evident when she offered to go that same day after work, a true inspiration to us all.

Irene pulled into the grocery store parking lot with her son, Matt. He was a newly signed-on volunteer and eagerly agreed to keep his Mom company and help deliver Sheherazade. This was his first time helping transport and, hopefully, the first of many tales he would tell of helping rescue GSP’s like Sheherazade.

A big shout out to Matt and his Mom, Irene. Seeing children follow after their parents doing great things to help save a dog's life is humbling and should give us all hope. Thank you, Irene and Matt, for your selfless dedication to helping Sheherazade. Your actions are truly appreciated and we're sure she'll never forget you, and neither will we.

Since rescuing Sheherazade, we've learned she needs a slow introduction to only dogs who respect her space. Getting too close too soon makes her snappy; we think she might even prefer to be an only dog. She is also cautious with humans. Someone might not have treated her nicely, but this pocket pointer will be a love bug once she gets to know you.

If Sheherazade interests you, please consider submitting an application. Our adoption process is straightforward and designed to ensure the best match for both the dog and the adopter. If you aren't able to adopt, please, share this post and video and help find her a forever home.
