Georgia

"She's scared of her shadow." The Animal Control Officer expressed her concern for Georgia. She had reached out to California GSP Rescue, wanting her to go to the right home. Georgia had been so afraid at the shelter; she attempted to hide under the raised bed in her kennel. Concerned, she was prescribed medication to help with her fear of the noise of dogs barking.

The Animal Control Officer said she had sent a photo and asked if we could help. The volunteer quickly looked at the image. There wasn't a question. But, one glance at the picture of the scared pup and hearing her story, the volunteer quickly replied, California GSP Rescue could help.

Once confirmation was made when she would be made available, The Rescue quickly made arrangements to pick her up. Fortunately, California GSP Rescue had been partnered with this shelter for some time, and the Adoption Coordinator made special arrangements to pick her up after hours. However, Volunteer Greg arrived when the sun was low on the horizon, but wasn't prepared to meet the dog, scared of her shadow.

The Animal Control Officer brought her outside, and almost as soon as she was out in the fading daylight, she panicked, trying to hide. Leashing her was useless; Georgia, her eyes wide with fear, was quickly scooped up in the arms of the volunteer and carried to the car. Once in the car, she immediately found comfort in the crate.

Volunteer Greg soon learned that Georgia was afraid of much more than just her shadow. Any loud noise or sudden movement sent her into a panic, leaving her looking for anything big enough she could hide behind. Sometimes the noise was so slight; it was difficult to determine what spooked her.

Arriving back at The Rescue, just as Georgia seemed as if she was relaxing, something would spook her, sending her into a frenzy looking for a place to hide. Sometimes the sound or noise would almost be unnoticeable. This sweet little girl would need some work before finding her forever home to manage her hypersensitivity to noise and sudden movement.

Yes, this little GSP named Georgia was afraid of much more than just her shadow, but California GSP Rescue was confident they could find her a forever home where she would be loved and trained.

California GSP Rescue would like to extend our thanks to Jennifer, the animal control officer that reached out to see if we could help. She also made the necessary arrangements allowing California GSP Rescue to come after hours for the pickup. In addition, we'd like to thank the Rescue Heroes. Finding homes for dogs like Georgia isn't easy, but with the support of the Rescue Heroes, we can take as much time as needed to find the right home.
