Chevy Is Adopted!

Sarva and Dada had previous experience with a GSP. Oddly their prior neighbor was moving and gave them a GSP. They had no experience with the breed but fell in love with her and when she passed they wanted another GSP in their home again. They did wonderful nice walks each day but maybe were not looking for a dog that needed 6 miles a day of walks. We had looked for a GSP for them for a while and they got excited when we found that Chevy could be a match. They took him home, and, as you can see from their notes, they did some work with Chevy to acclimate him, but have brought out the best in him. He has become a loved companion in their home and we could not be happier when we get an update from this lovely adopting family on how Chevy is doing.

“Since September 19th, Chevy and us have evolved. To begin, we wanted to adopt a GSP. We came across GSP Rescue. After we sent the application, Andrea reached out to us with a few options. After reading Chevy's story, we felt Chevy would be our pick.

When we met Chevy at the Beaumont rescue, he greeted us with kind eyes and a waggy tail. But once we got him home, we noticed that Chevy had huge separation anxiety. He would get stressed and start chewing, digging and pulling plants if we left him alone.

We tried taking him to dog training classes to socialize with other dogs. He got more stressed seeing so many dogs, and showed some aggression. Actually Chevy was scared of other dogs. We stopped the training, just started defining a structure in daily activities with us. We start with a morning walk, then play fetch for 15 minutes, leave him in the backyard for a short time and then bring him inside. Slowly we started leaving him in the backyard for a longer time. Now he's used to staying in the backyard for a whole day. We slowly introduced him to our daughter's small dog Scarlett. He got along well with her. He is such a gentleman, he plays very softly with her as she is a small dog. We are enjoying our time with Chevy. We are so happy that Chevy came into our family”.
