Bear Is Adopted!

Bear is now "The Bear" and when we see his pictures it makes us want to say "one of these things is not like the other". However, The Bear is living his best life as a Doodle dog . He is loving his new life and, as you can see by his adopters' notes, being a tripod is not even an issue that comes up in his life. As usual they are working on some things with him but he is proving to be a great companion for their dogs and just a good dog for the humans. Deborah has said that the Bear is a little mouthy by nature and likes to grab his leash or even wake her up by grabbing her arm to let her know its time to get out and potty or walk.

It is our privilege as a rescue to work with such wonderful and thoughtful adopters such as Deborah and her husband. We know that “The Bear” could not be in better hands than theirs.

“We have Bully Stick Friday; it is the end of the week treat for the pups! The Bear has worked himself into the pack well. Overall, it has been a surprisingly easy transition. He's pretty spot on with the 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months thought process, as are we in following them. Someone spent some time with him so The Bear came in with house manners, which we are thankful for.

He's adapted well to our routines, and it did not take a ton of work establishing some boundaries with him. He's so thankful for the attention and love he's getting that he was getting a bit pushy about getting his doses - literally would push the girls out of the way. A few stern "no's" and he backed off of that. He's got a bit of anxiety and a chatter jaw, so we know when he's feeling it and just give him a bit more love to reassure him that he's with family.

We bounce back and forth between two homes, so he had double the work to fit into two different environments that have different rules (fences v no fences, etc). He's a smart boy and figured it out quickly though. Happily surprised to have zero issues at our second home, that is not fenced. He pretty much followed the girls around and picked up on the Do's and Dont’s from them.

Early on The Bear did stress a bit about being left behind; if there was an open car door, he is going to try to get in the car! The one challenging area still lingering is feeding / eating habits. Our girls are grazers, and The Bear, quite simply, is just an eater lol. So, he put the girls on a diet by plowing through their food bowls too! That really is the last work in progress we have going on, and he is much better after a few weeks of working with him on it, so we aren't real concerned.

The Bear and Maizey have become pretty good play pals - and that truly is what had us go down this path to begin with. Maizey is also a rescue with HUGE separation anxiety; she simply cannot be alone and Bella is almost 13. They pal around together quite nicely, which we are very thankful for. Actually, we are just overall very thankful and feel blessed. The Bear has made a great addition to our family - even if he is a bit of dope who hasn't quite gotten the concept of a screen door yet. He loves sunning himself in the back yard, always makes Bella 'share her space', and clearly is not allowed on the furniture

On a side note, shout out to Andrea! I've kept in touch with her throughout, giving her updates, and in return rec'd several helpful hints and pointers on a few things... Very much appreciated and helpful in The Bear smoothly blending into our family”.

Best,

Deborah
