Shadow

Meet Shadow, a 5-year-old female German Shorthaired Pointer whose owner gave up to the rescue—not because she wanted to but because she was forced to. After losing her job and her home (and yard for Shadow), she had nowhere to go but into a home with another family member. Shadow and her owner relocated to a room in a house with a bossy small dog.

While having some preferences, Shadow has shown adaptability in her interactions with other dogs. She has interacted well with larger, well-socialized dogs but appears to be less tolerant of smaller, bossy dogs. She might do best as an only dog or in a home with a well-socialized beta male. It would also need to be in a home that can manage toys, treats, & food around the dogs.

Shadow loves to hunt any small furry animal or four-legged reptiles with a tail. Like most shorthairs in urban backyards, this can keep her entertained for a portion of the day, but she'll still need regular exercise. Currently, she is good with a mile walk at a good pace. Once and sometimes twice a day. Afterward, she would love to sit next to you and be petted and loved.

The Basics:

Gender: Female

Age: 5 years

Dogs: Better with large dogs

Cats: best without

Kids: OK when on walks

What the Volunteers are saying:

- super sweet!

- sat for treats

- didn't respond to her name while hunting in the sage

- wanted pets the whole time

- so sweet

- good on a long line while in the park

The Good Stuff:

She needs less time to exercise than a 2-year-old GSP but is just as sweet, if not sweeter

The Challenges:

No small dogs or cats, and she will need some work on recall.

Shadow is the perfect dog for someone who has never owned a German Shorthaired Pointer. While she will need someone active who can give her exercise regularly, she isn't as demanding as a one or two-year-old GSP. She could be a great companion for someone who enjoys hiking and long walks.

If you are looking for an only dog and have never owned a GSP, Shadow might be the perfect dog for you. Please submit an application if you can give her the regular exercise and love she needs. You can still help by sharing her story, video, and posts if you cannot adopt.
