Lillie Mae

Lillie Mae is a beautiful 4 year old female GSP all Liver with a white chest. She was surrendered to the rescue when her owners broke up, and life changed for Lillie Mae. The woman who surrendered her said her ex used to work from home, and when they broke up, Lillie Mae was then left alone 8 to 11 hours a day in the backyard alone, and would bark excessively. She felt she had no choice but to find her another home with someone that worked from home or was at home since that is what Lillie Mae had become accustomed to. Lillie Mae also had an almost 2 year old pup that was surrendered with her as well.

She is good with all people, and children and other large dogs. She loves to play and is sweet and affectionate. She does pull on a leash. Very strong for her size. Does well in a car. Has had little or no training, but does know sit. She is a bolter at the front door and has no recall, so this would be something that would need to be managed rather quickly. Since she was left alone in the backyard after being used to having someone home with her all day, she has developed some separation anxiety which is pretty normal under these circumstances.

Her previous owner said she is house trained, but not crate trained. Spent all day outside, but came inside at night to sleep. Not a fence jumper. She weighs about 50 lbs.

What our volunteers are saying:

Super energetic, loves to chase lizards, easy and fun to walk with light pulling.  Likes having thick blankets to sleep with, likes being bundled up.

Great temperament. Very sweet and affectionate. Gives the softest little kisses. Loves getting attention. A huge sweetheart.

Howled when a police siren went by.  Got the whole kennel to sing with her.

Sings when excited. Will howl back if you howl at her.

Loves playing fetch, and will chase toys but not pick up or bring back.  Mainly wants to run with you. Listens as soon as you give her a command.  Will sit “mid -jump” if you tell her too.  Seems to know stay 25% of the time.

Mostly interested in saying hi to everyone. Loves to explore and chew on toys. Comes when called, picks up toys and shakes them. Likes to play in the pools, but did not like the hose. Loves meeting people.
