Kermit is Adopted!

From time to time, we help individuals when faced with difficult decisions to give you their dogs. The dogs once loved have found themselves victims of circumstances they have no control over. Kermit's owner looked to a relative to watch Kermit after a divorce, and while the owner relocated. Unfortunately, the owner could not take Kermit after relocating, and the relatives, unable to manage Kermit, were not a long term solution. The owner reached out to California GSP Rescue for assistance.

Kermit was and is a great dog. However, many applicants do not pay much attention to dogs Kermit's age. At 7 years of age and needing to be an only dog, Kermit was not as adoptable as the younger GSP’s. However, Danny and Jenny did not want to deal with the younger GSP’s energy, and were very interested in Kermit. After applying to adopt and being approved, Kermit was a candidate they would meet. Not wanting to be impulsive, they went home to talk things over as a family - highly recommended something anyone do when looking to get a pet. The next day, they made their decision. Kermit was the right dog for them.

Updates That Make Our Days

Danny, Jenny, and Seth cannot say enough about their newly adopted dog. The following is their update:

“Jenny and I would like to extend our sincere thank you to you and the CA GSP Rescue Team for helping us find Kermit . He is a very well mannered dog and very smart. We have been working on refreshing his commands, and so far he’s been cooperative he makes training look easy. We actually taught him to shake hands. We will need to work on him not pulling on the leash and not get overly excited with other dogs.

We also renamed him Manualoha; Manu for short as it means “love bird” in Hawaiian and it was a fitting name for a lovable bird dog. We’ve been exercising him at least 3x a day playing fetch or taking him out for long walks and reinforcing his training. And you are right when you told us he can play fetch all day! With all the play, he is actually looking leaner as he was a bit over weight when we first picked him up.

He is adjusting well to his new home as we are getting use to him being around. He is helping us heal, and has helped us enjoy the simple things in life”.

We commend Danny, Jenny, and Seth for being patient with the process and taking the time to discuss their decision as a family. We have thoroughly enjoyed their updates over the past several weeks and through the holiday as Manu has settled in.

Kermit is a 6 year old stunning male black and roan German Shorthaired Pointer. Unfortunately, Kermit was surrendered to us when there was a divorce, and neither could keep him.

Kermit is house trained and crate trained. He is great on a leash. He has had a little training, very smart, and knows the commands “sit”, “stay” and “leave it”. He absolutely LOVES playing fetch and will bring the ball back to you, and give it to you on command. He can even hold 3 balls in his mouth!

Kermit loves any type of water. Loves to swim in pools and lakes.

Kermit is affectionate and sweet with people, and prefers his humans over other dogs.

The perfect home for Kermit would be with someone who has no other dogs or cats and older children. Someone that can provide Kermit with daily exercise and continued training. A secure yard is a must. A home with a pool, trips to the beach or lake would be a bonus for this water loving boy.
