Two Loving Souls Seek Second Chance: Rescue Answers The Call
On a frosty day in early January, a desperate plea unfolded through an email sent via the California GSP Rescue website. The Humane Society, overwhelmed by an influx of dogs, reached out to CAGSP Rescue for the first time, needing assistance with two exceptional souls: Gary and Chloe, two adult German Shorthaired Pointers. The juxtaposition of this loving duo in a kennel surrounded by younger dogs yearning for homes raises the question: How did Gary and Chloe find themselves in this predicament?
Unlike the usual flood of young, energetic GSP’s surrendered by overwhelmed owners, Gary and Chloe offered a different story. Their owner was moving and couldn't take the pair. Older, calmer, and brimming with affection, one would think the two GSPs would be perfect for adoption. Sadly, older dogs often get overlooked in shelters, a fate California GSP Rescue refused to accept for these gentle giants.
The logistics of transporting Gary and Chloe from the Central Coast proved challenging. But Mariann and David, seasoned volunteers with a heart for GSP’s, stepped up. Witnessing the multitude of dogs awaiting homes at the shelter, Mariann felt a familiar twinge of sadness. "It saddens me to see so many dogs needing forever homes, knowing humans are causing this," she shared. Yet, amidst the overwhelming need, her spirit remained undeterred.
Echoing Mariann's sentiment, David expressed surprise at the lack of interest in older GSP’s. "They're the easiest, most manageable!" he exclaimed. While not demanding the boundless energy of young pups, Gary and Chloe promised walks, cuddles, and a lifetime of loyalty.
Gary and Chloe are resilient and gleamed with positivity despite their past neglect, evidenced by skin issues and recent dental work. Since being rescued, they have thrived with other dogs, even playful youngsters, and displayed exemplary behavior during transport.
