Caring for the dogs in our Rescue while they await their forever homes is not just a duty; it's a heartfelt commitment. Beyond ensuring they are well-fed and receive the necessary medical care, we prioritize their safety while they eagerly await that magical adoption day. However, sometimes, unforeseen events occur, as was the case with Margo.

In 2021, shortly after the Fourth of July, we rescued Margo from a local shelter. She may have been one of the noise-sensitive dogs often seen at shelters after fireworks displays. Sadly, no one came forward to claim her, so California GSP Rescue stepped in, fully aware that the chances of a nine-year-old GSP finding a forever home while at the Animal Shelter were slim.

While we strive to provide a secure haven for all the dogs we rescue, including the escape artists, Margo managed to slip away shortly after her arrival. Fortunately, instead of becoming another statistic of dogs hit by cars after escaping, she was discovered by a compassionate stranger who reached out to The Rescue. However, this tale took an unforeseen turn when the stranger's motivations were not rooted in goodwill but rather greed-driven. A volunteer arranged to meet with the finder, offering a reward and hoping to reunite with Margo, but Margo mysteriously vanished once again.

Though our concern for Margo never waned, in our hearts, we clung to the hope that she was receiving the basic necessities—food, shelter, and some love. We knew that if she became lost again, her microchip would be her lifeline back to us. So, we waited patiently, with days stretching into weeks and weeks evolving into months. Then, out of the blue, we received an unexpected call from the very same animal shelter from which we had rescued Margo.

As the conversation unfolded, it became evident that the shelter inquired about a dog we had previously rescued—Margo. We wasted no time. With the animal shelter at capacity and lacking available kennels, a volunteer rushed to the Animal Shelter to claim Margo and ensure her safety.

Margo's journey has been a roller coaster of emotions, but our unwavering commitment to her and all the dogs in our care remains steadfast. Her remarkable resilience reminds us why we do what we do, and we are determined to provide her with the love and care she so rightfully deserves until her forever home can be found.
