My Name is Abby

Abby DSC_0095w8x6My name is Abby. I think I'm 12 years old, but I don't remember as they stopped having birthday parties for me long ago, about the time they had their human babies. But I didn't mind, even though the babies pulled my ears sometimes, they also gave me snacks. My life changed a lot over the years I was with my family, but I didn't mind. I enjoyed having more people in my pack.My name is Abby, and a few days ago my family took me on a trip. I love the car because it rocks me to sleep, and the seats are soft and comfortable. When we arrived, there were a lot of dogs that looked like me, and a lot of people coming up to me and petting me. Those people looked so sad and kept telling me, "it will be okay". Before I knew it, my family was outside the gate. I barked and cried to make sure they knew they forgot me, but they left. I paced along the fence awhile. Strangers came over to pet me and try to take me for a walk, but my legs hurt after such a long day. I laid down next to the fence and cried, I didn't know what else to do.My name is Abby.  That's what I wanted to tell that nice man who carried me to his car. I wanted to tell him where I lived and ask him to take me back home. But he took me to another home I'd never seen before. There are other dogs here and a nice dog bed, the man is very nice, and so is his wife. They showed me where the dog door is but in the middle of the night, I can't find it; this house isn't like mine. I didn't mean to have an accident, and I'm so embarrassed. They aren't mad and smile at me and pet me. They look a little tired. I know I cried a lot last night and I didn't mean to cause any trouble, but I don't know where my family is; I hoped they would hear me and come back.My name is Abby, and I don't think my family is coming back. I'm sorry if I did something to make them mad. I've been trying hard to remember what I did. I know they got frustrated that I couldn't get up the stairs as well as I used to, but that new condo they bought just had so many of them! I know I can't go on long hikes anymore, but I was okay if they left me home to nap. I just got old and I'm achy sometimes, but I thought that would be okay. We were together for SO long.  I saw them get older and I didn't mind. They had children, and I loved them too, even when they weren't so lovable. I thought I'd be with my family forever. I remember when they said, "who's my girl, who's my Abby?!" It's me...my name is Abby...I'm their girl...I'm waiting at the gate for them to come back.We at California GSP Rescue are saddened any time a dog loses its home, but it is particularly difficult to see a senior in need of re-homing. Still, we are grateful that a family chooses rescue over a shelter or euthanasia. We want to find our senior rescues new homes as quickly as possible, so that they can have a loving family, instead of a kennel or foster home, for the rest of their days.  If you've ever thought of giving a senior dog a home, do it now! It is truly one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have  - and there are dogs in need, like Abby.If you have room in your home and in your heart for Abby, to love and cherish her for the rest of her life, please apply here.
