Iseult and Tristan Are Safe

When California GSP Rescue first learned of Iseult and Tristan, we were a little surprised. Their owner had taken both dogs to the shelter for one reason. We'll get to the reason in a moment, but we wanted to ask, when is the last time you purchased an item and threw it in the trash? Have you bought a pair of shoes, gotten home, decided you didn't like the color, and then throw them away? Probably not. If by chance, you had second thoughts, you might give the shoes away or donate them. But throwing them away?!?

Even though animal shelter adoption rates have increased substantially over the past several months, there are uncertainties. Dogs react differently in stressful environments. Overreactions to other dogs or even people aren't uncommon. Some actions might be cause for reassessing and labeling the dog un-adoptable.

Fortunately for Iseult and Tristan, fellow rescuer Marylin was alerted to both dogs relinquished to the shelter and notified California GSP Rescue immediately. California GSP Rescue reached out to the shelter for more information and confirmed why the German Shorthaired Pointers were surrendered. The previous owner had purchased the pair to hunt, but both turned out to be gun shy and ended up at the shelter. While being gun shy is an issue if you wanted a dog to hunt, the previous owner overlooked how sweet and loving each dog was.

California GSP Rescue knew being gun shy wouldn't be a quality that prevented finding both dogs a forever home. However, before committing to taking the pair, arrangements to transport needed to be made. Volunteer Jean, who has helped in the past, quickly committed to picking the dogs up from the shelter and transporting part way. She set a date she could go to the shelter and meet the second leg of the trip. Later that week, Iseult and Tristan were picked up from the shelter and transported one step closer to their forever home.

California GSP Rescue would like to thank the friendly and helpful Animal Control Officers at the shelter and Jean, who was rewarded with kisses from Iseult and Tristan. A big thanks to the Rescue Heroes for their support and for helping make this possible.
