In Loving Memory Of Sheldon

Sheldon

Sheldon

Sheldon came to us in 2011 at around a year old. Shortly after, he went into a wonderful foster home with Andrea, Dan and Paige so we could learn more about this sweet big boy.

We learned that Sheldon was friendly, and had a huge personality. More so than what some people would like. He wanted to say hello to every person, dog, bunny, shadow, bird, etc.  He loved life to the fullest.  He loved squeaky toys and a bone to chew on now and then.  He played with their other dogs in the sense that they both chase a ball. He loved to chase a ball in the water, and if his humans were in water he will not be left out!!!  He swam circles around his foster Mom in the pool.

We are so grateful to Andrea and Dan who gave so much of their time and their hearts to prepare Sheldon for his forever home. Their love for Sheldon carried him until just a short time later, Sheldon found his forever family.

Our hearts are heavy, as we recently learned that Sheldon has passed away. Such a bright light, and a loved and cherished member of his family for almost 10 years.

“We are writing this to inform you that Sheldon, adopted from CA GSP Rescue almost ten years ago, is no longer with us.

The doctors believe it was most likely liver or pancreatic cancer that was causing uncontrollable abdominal fluid build up and illness in Sheldon—many tests and hospital visits proved inconclusive on the exact diagnosis. The onset was sudden and he enjoyed his life up to the last week.

Sheldon was euthanized in our home, surrounded by his entire family, on his favorite spot by the doors where the sun shines in. It was a devastating and unexpected loss for our family, one that we will be slow to recover from.

He brought many years of joy, love, laughter, exercise, entertainment and connection to each of us in the home. He was one of us.

We will miss his loyal companionship. Long walks on the trails. His constantly wagging tail and excitement to see us each day. He was smart, sweet and eager to please. So athletic. He loved to be snuggled and curled up next to his people. My husband will miss the silly tricks Sheldon did for treats and we will all miss the friend that never left our side. He was the best friend.

Loving Sheldon was easy but caring for him sometimes was not. Ten years with him were not necessarily stress free. Most issues he had stemmed from wanting to be with his people, every second. Others stemmed from his discomfort with being around other dogs. He was our first dog, and we joke about “how much dog” we got. Andrea told me he was unique but wonderful, after having taken him into her home to foster. Now we can’t imagine how life would have been had we passed him up. Our home will never be the same.

Sending our gratitude to Andrea and Dan for making that first introduction, and to the rescue for everything you did to allow him to find his way home.

Best of luck in all you do and take care”.
