In Loving Memory Of Sage

Sage was surrendered to us at 7 years old. This captivating canine's story began when her previous owner faced the heart-wrenching decision to give up their pet of seven years due to a change in living arrangements. They had downsized and were moving into a smaller home.

Sage was a member of a lively pack of Pointers in her previous home, sharing the space with four other furry friends. Although Sage did not possess the typical high energy of a German Shorthaired Pointer, she still required regular exercise and walks to keep her happy and healthy. We thought she might be the ideal companion for someone seeking a more relaxed GSP experience.

Michael applied to adopt an older female GSP. He had grown up with a GSP, and was looking for a companion who he could take on daily walks, and also accompany him on hikes on the weekends. He wasn’t looking for that high energy GSP, but the personality and energy level of an older GSP.

It took a while before we had a fit for Michael, but he was patient and was willing to wait for as long as it took to find “the one”. Then it happened. Sage arrived at the rescue, and we thought she was exactly what Michael had been waiting for. We reached out to Michael to tell him all about Sage, and wasted no time setting up the appointment for him to come and meet Sage, and we knew immediately that he wasn’t leaving without her.

Sage lived a happy and fulfilled life with Michael for almost 2 years, and it is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Michael’s beloved Sage has passed away. While we were sad to hear this news, we are so grateful to Michael for wanting to share his life with an older dog, and give Sage the life she deserved the second time around.

“Good afternoon,

Today, I had to make a very difficult decision to say goodbye to my beloved Sage (Saige). She was born on April 4, 2016 and I adopted her on May 3, 2023. She was a sweet and loving girl, true to her breed always chasing, hunting, and keeping a watchful eye on anything that moved in the yard during the day and cuddled up, asking for love and snuggles in the evening.

She reminded me so much of another cherished dog of the same breed from my childhood, Judy, who brought endless joy, love, and laughter. My dream was to take Sage camping, letting her fully embrace the wild, exploring, hunting, and living her best life in nature. But God had a different plan.

She was diagnosed with a mass on her spleen, likely cancerous, and had begun to hemorrhage. The last thing I would ever want for her was pain or suffering. The hardest part of loving a pet is knowing when to put their well-being above your own heartbreak. She fell asleep in my arms, peaceful and free from pain, as I cherished every last moment with her.

Now, she’s in that big doggy heaven in the sky, chasing lizards, birds, and squirrels, just as she loved to do. I’ll forever cherish the love and memories she gave me in the short time she spent with me.

Rest easy, my Sagie girl. I love you always”

I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to you and your staff for bringing Sage into my life. It took me nearly two years to find the right match, but the wait was worth every moment. When I found Sage, I knew she was meant to be part of my life. Though our time together was unexpectedly short, it was incredibly sweet and meaningful. I will forever be grateful for the work you do and for giving me the chance to love such a wonderful dog. Thank you for all you do for dogs such as Sage, and for so many other dogs and families.

With appreciation,

Michael
