Harry Is Safe!

Harry was a stray in a Southern California neighborhood where the average price of a home is around one million dollars. One would think that someone living in a community like that might look for their lost dog, but no one did. Harry ended up at the local animal shelter, where he was brought in with another stray dog.

The animal control officer put the two dogs together but soon found out they weren't compatible. A few days later, there was an altercation with Harry getting the worst of it, and he ended up seeing the Vet and getting a few stitches. No one showed up looking for Harry.

Harry's available date came and went, and his stitches were removed. He was moved to dogs available for adoption. Visitors to the shelter passed by, and still, Harry's owner never showed up.

A little more than a week after Harry was made available, a volunteer at California GSP Rescue noticed an all liver dog listed as a Pointer at the shelter. You couldn't tell much from the image; you couldn't see his tail, and, from the photo, he could have easily been a Lab Mix. Still, wanting to make sure, the volunteer contacted the shelter. As it turned out, the "Pointer" had a docked tail, and since no one had shown up to claim him and no one was interested in adopting him, he was available.

California GSP Rescue didn't waste any time. Even though Harry was purebred, he had been held well past the mandatory holding period. The shelter, if needing room, could decide to euthanize dogs for space. Not wanting this to happen, Volunteer Lisa made plans to visit the animal shelter the next day when the first adoption appointment was available.

Volunteer Lisa arrived at the animal shelter the following afternoon. When they brought Harry out, she was surprised at how big and sweet he was. Volunteer Lisa noticed the scaring from where he had been in the scuffle with the other dog, but it was healing nicely. She signed the paperwork and loaded him up without wasting any additional time. It would be a few hours for her to brave the traffic and get him to The Rescue; however, the time spent would be worth it. Harry was safe and soon would be one step closer to his forever home.

California GSP Rescue will be sharing more information very soon about Harry as we learn more about him. We ask that you please share this post and help us find that perfect someone that might be looking to adopt a dog like Harry.

A big thanks to Volunteer Lisa for taking the time out of her weekend to help get Harry one step closer to her forever home.
