Gatsby Is Safe!

Gatsby

Gatsby is a young male German Shorthaired Pointer that was left tied to a pole outside a local animal shelter. When the animal shelter opened, an animal control officer retrieved the young playful GSP. Over the past several months, there has been an increase in the number of young GSP’s being surrendered or showing up as strays in shelters, but when California GSP Rescue learned of Gatsby's story, we didn't hesitate to help.

Young GSP’s at animal shelters get a lot of attention from visitors looking to adopt, and those unfamiliar with the breed that choose to adopt may soon find they are overwhelmed. Young German Shorthaired Pointers require a lot of time to exercise and train, and if a GSP isn't adequately exercised, undesirable behaviors may develop and are often returned.

Gatsby was not returned. The animal shelter was able to track down the person who left Gatsby tied to the post. The person told the animal control officer that Gatsby was found running loose in their neighborhood. A good Samaritan and dog lover that didn't want a dog to get hit by a car?

A day or two later, a young underaged adult came looking for a lost German Shorthaired Pointer that had run away. The young adult walked through the kennels and was relieved and excited to find his GSP had been turned in and was safe. However, going to the front desk, the animal shelter would only release the GSP to a parent or guardian. When provided a number to call, it was the number of the person that had left the GSP tied to the post. The person that tied the GSP to the post was the young adult's parent, who had told their child the GSP had run away.

While Gatsby may not have received the exercise and attention he needed, we know he was loved by the young adult going to look for him. While California GSP Rescue looks for perfect homes for all the rescued German Shorthaired Pointers, Gatsby will get a home where he gets all the attention needed and is loved. That is our promise to the young adult who loved him enough to look and find him.

Please share this post if you want to help California GSP Rescue find Gatsby a forever home. We greatly appreciate those readers who like, comment, and share the posts; it helps! We are also grateful for the Rescue Heroes whose donations have helped care for all rescued dogs. Thank you.
