From Unclaimed to Unforgettable: Oso's Rescue Story

Oso was held in a nearby animal shelter for nearly a month, unknown to California GSP Rescue. How did he get overlooked? Was his fate buried within the recent stream of notifications and desperate pleas for dog's in shelters needing rescue? That was our initial suspicion when we received a recent email from a volunteer notifying us that there was a GSP in a local shelter for nearly 30 days. However, after he was rescued and we delved deeper, we discovered a different truth.

Oso was found running loose with another young GSP. Possibly a littermate or perhaps a second GSP that a family had purchased. We don't know. We do know that his partner in crime was adopted, and Oso remained at the shelter.

Initially deemed dog-friendly, Oso's amicable nature led to sharing his kennel with other dogs, a strategic move by the shelter to maximize space and extend the stay of dogs looking to be adopted. Unfortunately, an unfriendly canine was placed in Oso's shared kennel, which resulted in an altercation, leading to Oso's temporary medical care and removal from the adoptable dog's kennels and the shelter's website. This twist in his tale is most likely what caused Oso to go unnoticed by California GSP Rescue for most of his stay at the shelter.

After receiving the notification that Oso had spent nearly 30 days in the animal shelter, our team swiftly took action. Volunteer Greg, dedicated to the cause, planned a visit for the following morning. At the animal shelter, an animal control officer presented Oso to Greg—an exuberant young GSP with a short attention span, showcasing a need for training. Despite his lack of formal guidance, Oso's sweetness shone through. A combined investment in Oso's exercise and training would reap boundless rewards.

Since rescuing Oso, we see the potential, a gem often hidden to the unfamiliar eye. Beyond the exuberant energy lies a GSP that can be a sweet companion. California GSP Rescue is dedicated to finding Oso a forever home that understands and can manage him, seeing to it he gets the training and exercise he needs. A compassionate individual who can embrace the love and affection he has to give once the chaos has been managed.
