Della Is Adopted!

Della now known as Ellie with Jan and Jim

Finding forever homes for older dogs can pose challenges, but the rewards are immeasurable. We were fortunate to see Jim and Jan's compassion when they welcomed Buddy into their lives a few years ago, creating a loving home for a senior dog. The updates we received from them were heartwarming until the inevitable moment when Buddy crossed the rainbow bridge earlier this year. The void left by Buddy's departure was palpable. Shortly after, we learned of Della. Surrendered to another breed-specific rescue, Della's journey led her to California GSP Rescue, where we knew we had a special dog. This update from Jim and Jan sheds light on the transformation of Della into Ellie and the beautiful chapter she's now writing with her new family. Their story is a testament to the incredible impact that adopting a senior dog can have on the dog and the family, showcasing the power of second chances and the unwavering bond between humans and their canine companions. Read on to discover how Della's tale unfolds in her new forever home.

On the 23rd of September Jan and I picked up Ellie (known as Della) and she joined our family. I wanted to send an email to say THANK YOU!  When we lost our prior GSP Rescue family member, Buddy (who was 16-1/2), we reached out to Teri and Greg (who helped us adopt Buddy) about adopting another senior and they felt they had just the dog for us, Della.  We were fortunate enough to meet Della at one of the California GSP Rescue’s  Walk a Dog Day.  We were immediately smitten and went home and submitted our adoption application.  We decided to shorten her name from Della to Ellie.

Ever since we picked her up, Ellie has been an amazing dog with the sweetest disposition and affection.  She is a wonderful addition to our family and has settled right in and our “house” has become a home again.  Ellie loves her walks with Jan each day, running in the back yard, playing with her dog toys, and having morning coffee with me (or maybe that's the dog treats I give her).  She has helped fill the void after we lost Buddy, and her presence is a blessing every day.

Jan and I both are loyal followers of CA GSP Rescue and all the dogs the Rescue helps; somehow thank you doesn't seem enough for all involved. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone involved for everything they do.

We can’t thank Greg and Teri enough (again) for helping us find another truly amazing dog to become part of our family and we look forward to a number of wonderful years with Ellie at our side.
Thanks once again for bringing Ellie into our lives”.

California GSP Rescue extends its deepest gratitude to Jim and Jan for once again opening their hearts and home to a senior German Shorthaired Pointer. Now affectionately known as Ellie, we are confident she is in the most loving and caring hands. As she embarks on this new chapter of her life, we anticipate that Ellie will not only be showered with the love and care she deserves but will reciprocate with boundless affection. The updates from Jim and Jan will undoubtedly be cherished, serving as a testament to the transformative power of adoption. We eagerly await the heartwarming stories and moments that will unfold as Ellie continues to thrive in her forever home. Thank you, Jim and Jan, for making a difference in Ellie's life and being true advocates for senior GSP’s.
