Dogs with weak immune systems or immature gastrointestinal tracts are also more at risk. Symptoms of Salmonellosis (the infection caused by salmonella contamination) commonly include: Fever, lethargy, diarrhea, vomiting, shock, anorexia, weight loss, dehydration, skin disease, mucus in stool, fast heart rate, swollen lymph notes, abnormal vaginal discharge and miscarriage in pregnant females.Since pet foods are not regulated as thoroughly as "people food", it is important that pet parents are diligent about keeping their pets safe! It is recommended that you read labels thoroughly, look a the country of origin of all ingredients, find out who the parent company of your dog food company is (many smaller dog food companies have recently been bought out by large conglomerates who you may, or may not, trust with your pets health.  Of course, you may also opt for homemade food so that you know exactly what your pet is eating. If so, do lots of research and consult your veterinarian.
