DB Is Safe!
When DB showed up at The Shelter, we thought the owner of this good-looking adult male would come to claim him. They didn't. When The Shelter made him available to the public, we thought he would be adopted. He wasn't.
DB, picked up as a stray, sat in The Shelter for over a week, waiting for his owner to come to claim him. Even though several concerned individuals notified California GSP Rescue, there was nothing that we could do until the mandatory stray hold was up. When DB’s stray hold was up, Califonia GSP Rescue reached out to the Shelter and learned the policy at this Shelter is to hold them longer and make them available to the public. We at California GSP Rescue were sure he would be adopted.
After DB had spent just over two weeks in the Shelter with no one coming to claim or adopt him, the Shelter reached out to California GSP Rescue. The Rescue quickly made arrangements to pick DB up. We've maintained a good relationship with the Shelter, and they are aware that we'll respond when they ask for assistance.
The Volunteer arrived and waited in the lobby for his turn. He watched the kittens on display playing with each other. Kittens like puppies get more attention than grown or adult cats. That was evident as the number of people dropping off cats—two of the kittens adopted disappeared from the display. Meanwhile, at the same time, four adult cats were relinquished to the Shelter.
Passing by the dogs looking for DB, the Volunteer noted the ages. Adult cats and dogs struggle to get the attention that the younger kittens and puppies receive. This was evident back in the kennels where DB was housed. DB's neighbors, like him, were primarily adult dogs. Visitors adopted the younger dogs while the older adult dogs waited patiently.
Fortunately, there was one adult dog that was being adopted today. DB seemed to know immediately when his and the Volunteer's eyes met. He didn't hesitate, and came to the front of the kennel to notify the Volunteer; he had arrived at the right place. DB was safe.
While rescuing dogs, California GSP Rescue sees and notes the number of dogs in shelters. Many shelters are struggling with space leaving a limited time for the adult dogs in their kennels. While we remain focused on German Shorthaired Pointers, we strongly urge you to share the fantastic, non-GSP dogs available for adoption at the shelters with your friends and family.
Check back here regularly. We'll be sharing more information soon about DB. If you are interested in adopting, please apply here and click here to be a Hero.
