Darcy and Billy Bob Are Safe!
The first email from the Animal Shelter about Darcy was to the point she had been at the Animal Shelter for just under two weeks with no one interested in adopting. Her status was yellow. Could California GSP Rescue help? Once her status changed to red, she would be in greater danger of being put to sleep. The Animal Shelter sent an image of a black dog, and it wasn't easy to tell if she was purebred. However, since taking in Darcy, the Animal Shelter had picked up another dog, Billy Bob, that looked more like a German Shorthaired Pointer.
California GSP Rescue receives emails daily from Animal Shelters asking for help. Most dogs aren't breeds we have the resources to place, but an inquiry is made when there is an email about a German Shorthaired Pointer. By helping with a breed of dog, we know and have the resources to place a dog so that a shelter kennel is freed up for another stray dog that might take longer for the Animal Shelter to place.
California GSP Rescue replied, inquiring about Billy Bob and if he was available. Making one trip would save valuable time and resources, and Billy Bob was available to rescue, and California GSP Rescue could evaluate and save both.
All the kennels were full at the Animal Shelter except for just a few. Dogs were sharing kennel spaces, and temporary kennels had been erected. There had been an influx of dogs, and because of the time of the year, adoptions were down.
Darcy and Billy Bob were in two different areas of the shelter. In between were many barking dogs, curious and excited about the early visitor. Darcy was a little shy and reserved and wasn't doing well in her environment. At the shelter for as long as she was, it was understandable she was stressed and uncertain. On first look, it was clear she was a small black German Shorthaired Pointer.
Billy Bob was much more outgoing and approached the kennel gate for a treat. He hadn't been at the shelter as long as Darcy and appeared to be doing better in the environment than Darcy.
After seeing both dogs, the volunteer quickly decided to rescue both dogs. Two dogs out meant two empty kennels and space for the daily influx of stray dogs. While California GSP Rescue could not help with the Huskies, German Shepherds, and other breeds that filled the kennels, but they could help with Darcy and Billy Bob. Both Darcy and Billy Bob were safe.
California GSP Rescue is an all Volunteer non-profit organization focusing on rescuing and finding forever homes for German Shorthaired Pointers. Volunteers and Rescue Heroes help make this possible. Rescue Heroes' monthly contributions allow the Volunteers to remain focused on rescuing and finding forever homes for German Shorthaired Pointers. With their help, we pay for the food and care for the GSP’s while they wait for their forever homes. California GSP Rescue is also grateful to the Volunteers that donate their time and make everything possible.
