Cam Is Adopted!

Cam and Liz

At 10-years-old, Cam would fall into the category of older GSP’s. Someone found him and brought him to the shelter as a stray, which, given how easy going and slow his usual walking pace, we find it hard to believe he would wander too far from where he sleeps and is fed. Because he had no microchip, the animal shelter held Cam for the mandatory five days, and no one came or inquired about him. No one. Once he was available to rescue, California GSP Rescue wasted no time going to the shelter to rescue Cam.

Finding homes for dogs like Cam can be a challenge as most families are interested in adopting a younger dog. However, Cam still had several good years left in him, and we knew someone was going to hit the jackpot when they adopt Cam as he had a lot of love yet left to give.

Liz, a girl after our own hearts applied to adopt a senior GSP to be a companion to her 11 year old GSP mix, Clover to join her on walks, sunbathing in the backyard, and just hanging out together while Liz works from home. We had the perfect dog for her, and we invited Liz and Clover to come out and meet Cam, and this was music to our ears. “I really loved Cam so much! He was so gentle and such a sweetie. I’d love to give him a nice home! Can I adopt him?” Absolutely!!!!!

“Cam and Clover make a wonderful pair! They're both in their older years so I wanted Clover to have a companion- and Cam's a perfect fit for our home. While Clover is still full of that classic, youthful, GSP energy, Cam is quite the opposite- very gentle, quiet, and tender. They get along great!

I adopted Cam knowing that he has some spinal issues that affect his back legs, which was a challenge in the beginning because he slips quite easily on my hardwood floors, so I made sure to get some jute rugs so he can have a better grip, and I also bought him two orthopedic beds: one for my living room, and one for the bedroom. I luckily live on the first floor so we don't encounter stairs often, but I'm currently on my very first trip out of town with Cam! Clover's quite accustomed to trips so it's been very fun having Cam along this time. We're in Big Bear! He loves it here. I carry him up and down the stairs when we need to, and I encourage him as well to try - and he's made it up and down on his own several times! I love to tell him how proud I am of him. He also recently learned how to get up on my couch at home all by himself and he sleeps there most of the time now”.

We couldn’t have asked for more for Cam. Thank you Liz and Clover for welcoming Cam into your home, and sharing your life with him. This warms our hearts knowing that Cam is living the life he deserves, and we are truly grateful.
