The story of how Brownie ended up in a shelter is all too familiar and often leads to a discussion about our "throw away society" and how sadly common it is for people to lack personal responsibility these days.To give up a dog you've had all of your life because you are bringing a new baby home, is unthinkable to our volunteers and supporters. Most of us know it is just a little transition, most of us would find the time to care for our loyal companion even when life gets busy. We know that our dog considers us his family, and we return the favor.The poem below speaks to people who willingly step in when a dog's "family" fails him.
