Bob is Safe!

When we first received an email about Bob being picked up as a stray, California GSP Rescue wondered if his owner would come claim this young pointer mix from the shelter that has an adoption rate just over 50%. After a few days with volunteers checking daily, Bob was still at the shelter. After contacting the shelter, we learned that Bob's owner had relinquished him because he kept escaping his yard. In all likelihood, Bob was probably missing the exercise and attention he desired. Knowing that each day after he was relinquished to the shelter there was a chance he could be euthanized, California GSP Rescue didn't waste anytime to learn why no one was interested in adopting Bob.One of our volunteers arrived at the shelter and walked by a few dozen dogs that were either relinquished or picked up as strays. When the volunteer arrived at Bob's kennel, Bob was hiding in the back of the kennel but slowly came to the front to look at the new stranger who had paused, as he had most likely done dozen of times each day only to be disappointed they weren't someone he recognized. However, this person was a volunteer from California GSP Rescue and paused a little longer than the other strangers. The volunteer knelt and offered Bob a treat which he gently took. There was wag of a tail. A little sparkle of hope in his eye. Little did he know his future was about to change. He was safe.In the short time that Bob has been rescued and safe, we continue to be amazed that no one expressed an interest in this amazing boy. He doesn't look as sad as he did sitting waiting at the shelter. He appears to be well socialized running and playing with a few of the other more playful dogs in the field. It's not surprising that he doesn't appear to have had much training but he is responsive and wants to please. With a little work, someone is going to adopt an amazing dog.
