Bennie Is Safe!
While working on transporting a GSP out of one shelter, California GSP Rescue received an email about another GSP in a local shelter. The shelter staff was emailing to see if we could assist. Their kennels were full, and no one was interested in this GSP.
They sent an image of the liver GSP and said he had come in as a stray and was slightly shy. He looked beautiful. Why had no one come to claim him and, after he had been available for adoption, no one had expressed an interest in adopting him?
We didn't waste any time and arranged with the shelter to meet him later that afternoon. Arriving at the animal shelter, as expected, the kennels were full. Even with steady adoptions, they didn't match the animals showing up.
An Animal Control Officer took the volunteer to see the GSP. He was kenneled with another dog but still was unsure of the people on the other side of the gate. The Animal Control Officer took him to a field so the volunteer could observe him even though there wasn't a question; this GSP was leaving the shelter today.
Bennie was the name chosen to honor Elton John's farewell tour. It seemed fitting since the dog in the back of the waiting car that had just been picked up from being neutered was named "Jett." Both dogs rode well in the back of the vehicle.
The next several days would be spent evaluating Bennie and getting him neutered. So far, he is doing great. He gets along well with other dogs and loves being petted. Bennie should be on the dogs for adoption page soon, but if you are interested, consider submitting an application now!
Being able to rescue Bennie on the same day was possible because of the support from the Rescue Heroes. Please consider becoming a Rescue Hero to help support the efforts of California GSP Rescue.
