Bear Is Safe!
Bear is Safe!
Bear is about a 5-year-old GSP Mix that showed up at a Humane Society that works with several different rescues because there aren't as many adopters as dogs in the area they serve. Bear's owner surrendered him to the Humane Society after he had suffered an injury to his back leg. There aren't any details to the damage to Bear's leg other than it wasn't healing, and he would need further medical attention. Unable to pay, the owner surrendered Bear to the Humane Society, where he received the required medical attention. After consulting with the Veterinarian, the Humane Society decided it was in Bear's best interest to amputate his leg.
Finding a Rescue
Searching for a rescue that could place a German Shorthaired Pointer Mix, Kristin at the Humane Society reached out to Robin at Brittany Rescue. Robin, who we know and have worked with many times, referred Kristin to California GSP Rescue. After hearing about Bear and seeing the photos, we felt we were able to make a difference and find Bear a forever home.
Kristin located Samantha, who was willing to help transport Bear. Samantha made arrangements to meet California GSP Rescue at a Starbucks with Bear. A few days later, Bear was one step closer to his forever home.
What We Know About Bear
Bear is an escape artist. We speculate that Bear's injury to his leg could have something to do with his ability to escape. Bear loves people and getting attention. Also, he may have some separation anxiety, to what degree we are uncertain. His separation anxiety could be the motivation for escaping. Exercise and needed attention will help with both.
Bear has met a few well-behaved dogs and has done well, although he acted cautiously. For a three-legged dog, Bear doesn't have an issue running with the other dogs. He keeps up with the best of the dogs in the field.
How You Can Help
California GSP Rescue is grateful for not having to pay to amputate Bear's leg. However, we will soon be looking for a home for Bear. We are asking for your assistance. Please like and share Bear's post on social media. We'll be sharing additional information as we learn more about Bear, and we are confident someone is looking for a dog like Bear.
