Abandoned and Overlooked: Sweet Senior GSP Needs Your Love

The twelve-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, whom we've named Trudy, wandered into the stranger's yard and found a comfortable spot to lay down. When the person living at the house called Animal Control, they stated there was a stray dog in their yard, and she wouldn't stand. They suspected a car had hit her. Animal Control picked her up and had her examined by Vet. A car had not hit her, and the Vet offered no explanation why she wouldn't stand. Animal Control transported her to the Animal Shelter, where she would spend the next week waiting in a kennel for someone looking for her.

A week had painfully passed. The Senior German Shorthaired Pointer, still waiting, watched the people wandering through the kennels, looking for a lost dog or one to adopt. No one stopped by her kennel.

California GSP Rescue received an image of a liver dog with a little silver around her muzzle, a brief description, and a request. Could they help this twelve-year-old who is having issues standing up?

In the image, she is laying down looking up showing defeat in her eyes. After watching everyone pass by her kennel and getting no more than a glance, it was understandable why she seemed to have given up. No one came to claim her, and there wasn't anyone looking to adopt an older dog with issues standing.

California GSP Rescue realized the chances of a senior dog with potential medical issues being adopted from a shelter were slim. With so many dogs in the shelters, it was challenging for the young pups as they vied for the attention of visitors walking by their kennel looking to adopt. While there would be some obstacles and challenges, California GSP Rescue readily agreed. They knew adopting a senior dog like Trudy, after she received the medical attention she needed, would be a rewarding experience. They often come with a lifetime of love and gratitude, and their needs are often simpler than those of a younger dog.
