Wesley

Wesley is a nine-year-old Pointer that was a stray that the Shelter picked up. We managed to get him to California GSP Rescue with the help of Robin from another rescue. At nine, he is much mellower than the younger dogs, making him much easier to exercise. He still needs regular walks and plenty of pets.

When he arrived at the Shelter, he had a severe skin allergy that needed medical attention. Fortunately, Robin was able to take him and get him in to see a Vet. Since coming to California GSP Rescue, we have managed his allergies with regular baths with a special shampoo (Curaseb) and grain-free food. He has been doing much better, but needs someone that has the time to see he gets bathed regularly.

Wesley hasn't had much training. He doesn't seem to know many commands. However, he appears to be responsive to learning when some of the volunteers have worked with him. Wesley is good on a leash after the initial excitement of going on the walk. The first couple of hundred yards can be challenging, but after, he's a perfect gentleman on a leash.

We have socialized Wesley with several other well-socialized dogs. While he sometimes is a little forward when first meeting other dogs, he has gotten along with all. He isn't very interested in engaging the other dogs. We think he would be fine as an only dog and, depending on the disposition of the other dog(s), possibly in a multi-dog home.

Sometimes Wesley can be aloof when first meeting new people. However, when he warms up after a short time, he will bug you for pets. We suspect he wasn't given much love and attention in his previous home. His forever home will need to be someone that gives him all the love and attention he deserves.

If you are interested in meeting Wesley, please apply here. If you cannot adopt, please consider sharing Wesley's post and helping us find him a forever home.
