Archie

Archie is a seven-year-old neutered male German Shorthaired Pointer relinquished by his elderly owners, mainly because he pulled on a leash, and they were no longer able to give him the exercise he needed. The owners had initially rescued him two years ago from South Dakota from a shelter after being picked up as a stray. How he had escaped is a mystery as the owners never had an issue with him attempting to escape. Their only complaint was he was sometimes destructive when left alone for long periods, and he jumps on you for attention.

California GSP Rescue confirms he does pull, especially when he sees rabbits! We're sure it wouldn't be much different than if he saw a squirrel. However, we've been working with the pulling and the jumping up. While he still pulls and jumps up, his pulling, as well as his jumping, are getting better. We're sure that any adopter committed to training would make significant progress in a short amount of time.

Archie does need his daily exercise. The exercise helps deal with the mild separation anxiety he has exhibited, which is why his previous owners found him destructive. Archie hasn't been destructive since relinquished, but he is getting daily exercise. Exercise has consisted of mainly walks. A nice paced mile and a half walk, with or without rabbits, seems to be enough for Archie.

Archie is house-trained and knows how to use a doggy door. He's an intelligent dog that is quick to learn! He has learned to go to his bed before being fed, where he sits and waits until being released.

He is dog-friendly. It's quite the sight to see an adult GSP playing with other dogs. Archie loves playing with well-socialized dogs and has ignored the other dogs that want to be left alone.
