Wallace Is Adopted!

Patrick applied with us late last year, and wanted to adopt a young GSP. He did not have any experience with the breed, but wanted to learn more. He previously had a hound that he had adopted from a shelter that had passed away, and was ready to add a dog to his family. Patrick having no prior knowledge of owning a GSP, let alone a young GSP, we recommended that he come out to the rescue for an educational visit which he was more than happy and excited to do.

Patrick came out not once, but repeatedly, to learn more, and help exercise some of the young GSP’s. After a few visits out exercising some of the dogs with the bike and walking them, he wanted his family to come out for an educational visit as well. After the visit, they went home and had a family meeting, watched the video on our website and read the article about owning a GSP before committing to adopt. We supported Patrick, and loved his willingness to learn as much as he could, and worked with him to set up he and the dog he would adopt for success.

After several conversations with his family, and a couple more visits to the rescue, we knew Patrick was fully committed and confident, and we helped fit Patrick with Wallace, a young active GSP. Patrick went above and beyond to make sure he had all the knowledge and tools to make sure that Wallace would have everything he needed physically and emotionally.

We have received several updates since Wallace now known as WallE, went home with Patrick, and we couldn’t be more impressed and happier for this adoption.

“I appreciate you and your rescue are so hands-on in the adoption process, makes me and Wallace feel special.

Wallace is an amazing dog, he is smart very smart. I've struggled in the beginning with obedience. He is a GSP so the breed can be very stubborn if they don't get what they want. And they have patience. Sometimes when you want to train a dog and the dog shows patience and stubbornness it can be frustrating because a GSP will stare and not move. It's kind of funny. But wallE and I developed a bond, and he now understands I'm in charge. The bond comes from walks. Dogs love that time they go explore and wallE loves our morning and late-night walk. This is really how we bonded so well.

He learned how to sit, he learned to stay, he sometimes wants to give a paw, and we are currently learning to spin. I didn't know how house-trained he was, but surprisingly he does very well. He talks to you when he needs to go. By talking I mean he cries a little and sits by the door.

This is an amazingly beautiful breed”.

Thank you,

Patrick and Wall-E
