Ruger Is Adopted!
Ruger was the first dog adopted in 2021. While it was a year ago, it only seems like a short time since Gary and Glenna made the long drive to meet and adopt Ruger. First meetings aren’t always good indicators of the relationship or bond that can later develop. The following is an update and an account of the first meeting from Gary.
Thank you for allowing Glenna and I to adopt Ruger. We have had experience with GSP’s in the past, so we knew what to expect. When we first met Ruger, it was a little difficult to see what kind of a personality he had. He was too busy sniffing around and pulling on the leash. We knew he was just curious to be out and wanted to explore. We also knew there would be an adjustment period, and what we saw that first day wasn’t a good representation of what he would be like. Although I don’t know if you remember, but as soon as we put him in the truck, and he found the toy and treats we brought him, his personality began to show through. He laid on his back and started playing with that toy bird. He seemed to know he was going home.
He sat in the back seat and stuck his head right between Glenna and I for most of the 3 hour trip home. It didn’t take long for him to settle in. After a year he acts like he has been with us his entire life. I take him for a run for almost two miles every morning on my recumbent trike and Glenna usually takes him for a walk in the evenings. He thoroughly enjoys his time outside and relaxing at home. I have included a couple of pictures, one of his ride home after the adoption and the second just relaxing in the house. He has become a bit of a Velcro dog. Thanks again!
Thank you, Gary and Glenna, for giving Ruger his forever home!
