Roxy is Looking Good!

roxy-022213One of the things we love most at the Rescue is seeing the transformation of the dogs. Roxy arrived looking like she hadn't had much exercise and had had far too much to eat. In fact, she had been used for years by a breeder to produce puppies over and over again.  She ended up at a shelter where her owner picked up her sibling and left her behind.Well, just over a month ago, Roxy checked into the spa. Since then, she's been on a lo-cal diet and has been exercising daily. The result: she's dropped five pounds and is looking great! Roxy probably won't ever be one of those lithe bounders, but her figure is becoming that of a strong, muscular gal. Her gait has become bouncier. She even displays playful puppy-like behavior, so we know she's a long way from being an old maid.At nine years old, she is in terrific health, and loves to hunt. In fact, we're pretty sure her keen sense of smell might have qualified her for a great search and rescue dog. And who knows? With the right family and somebody willing to invest some time in training, she could have a whole new career! (We are very happy to report that her career as a breeding dog is finally done with. Roxy's pretty happy about that too.)She's a sweet and affectionate gal, and very well-behaved around the house. She loves her crate and is happy to camp out in it. She probably should not be in a household with cats. She's fairly easy to walk on-leash, though she can have a strong pull when she catches a scent. She's been doing well off-leash too, though still needs a little range correction. She's so happy to be out hunting that she can get a little ahead of herself, but she's quickly learning to respond to her foster mom's calls. She really is one smart cookie. (While not an escape artist, she does know how to open gate latches, so here at the spa we've made sure all the latches have extra security.)Roxy will probably be best as an only dog, since she does show a little dominance around other dogs, but we've also seen her interacting well with the local dog pack out in the field.Learn more about Roxy.
