In Loving Memory Of Maggie
We were notified about Maggie, who was found as a stray, and taken to a local shelter. Maggie’s owner was known, and when the shelter contacted them, they let the shelter know they wouldn’t be picking her up. We don’t know how someone could discard such an incredible dog, a member of their family, but thankfully it enabled her to have a second chance for a better life. Then two paths crossed at just the right time. Arthur and Helayne had adopted Bevo, a senior GSP from us back in April of 2016 after falling in love with him at one of our adoption events, and we had received the sad news that Bevo passed away.
In January of 2018, Arthur and Helayne noticed Maggie on our website, and contacted us to learn more about her. They had read her story, and with their huge hearts and love for older dogs, they wanted to reach out to see if Maggie would be a good fit for their family. Arthur and Helayne came out to meet Maggie, and it didn't take long to see it was love at first sight, and it was without a doubt, they weren't going home without her.
We were recently contacted by Arthur that sadly, Maggie passed away at almost 15 years old.
“We are heartbroken to report that we had to say goodbye to our Maggie yesterday due to an aggressive abdominal cancer. We adopted Maggie from California GSP Rescue in early 2018 when she was nine; she would have turned fifteen in November. Maggie was the gentle soul in our large pack. As ridiculous as it may sound, she never had a bad word to say about anyone.
“Maggie was one of five dogs in our home of all different breeds, but she was the princess of the pack. Although she was one of five dogs of different breeds competing for attention, I never once heard her bark or growl at any dog or person. She was probably the most "chill" dog we've ever had, and was always most content sitting with us on the couch having her head rubbed.
“Shortly after we adopted her, she staked out our guest bedroom as her own; she slept on that bed and it became known as Maggie's room. Like Bevo before her, she was a senior dog who you could just tell knew that she had been given a second chance. Maggie was a total love dog. She would have turned fifteen in November, so she ended up living a long life. We are so grateful to the California GSP Rescue for bringing us together for the past five and a half years. We will always love and miss her”.
Best,
Arthur and Helayne
