In Loving Memory of Lily

Lily MemoriamOur hearts are heavy, as we bring you the news that Lily who was adopted by two of our volunteers, Jeanne and Duncan, has passed away. We asked Jeanne to share Lily's story..."Goodbye sweet, sweet Lily! Lily crossed Rainbow Bridge today.  She was ‘rescued’ (or rescued her people) twice through California GSP Rescue. Up until about a week ago she was excited for her daily walks, stealing balls from her sister, hunting for critters and cats, and eating anything people eat. Last week she had two growths appear. After being on antibiotics for a week, her health failed quickly and she refused food. Her eyes told us it was time.Lily was born June 26, 2002. She was relinquished to an all-breed rescue, Halfway to Home, with her brother Max by their original owner due to a divorce. The dogs were transferred to California GSP Rescue on March 21, 2007.Lily and Max were adopted by Justine Clarke on 11/10/07 and lived happily with her in Las Vegas. After Max passed, Justine came back and rescued Dutch as a companion for Lily. Their peaceful life ended when Justine succumbed to pancreatic cancer in June 2010.Lily and Dutch seemed inseparable and volunteers believed they should be adopted together. They lived, slept, and played as a pair. Dutch was a year older, and finding a home for nine and ten year old dogs was a challenge. They lived with Jan in Bonsall and were favorites of the regular volunteers on Saturdays and Wednesdays until May, 2011, when Dutch was fatally bitten by a rattlesnake. We decided to foster Lily to allow her to be with our dogs Zena and Zulu. Within a week, it was obvious that Lily had found her forever home. She loved playing, walking, and of course…hunting for lizards! Lily never met an enemy. She loved all people and was intrigued by all dogs and horses. Her name is the symbol of beauty and purity, which is our Lily! Happy trails sweet Lily, you’ve enriched everyone’s life that you’ve touched. PS: give Dutch and Zulu lots of kisses for us!"
