In Loving Memory Of Honey
Honey came into the rescue in September of 2011 after she was picked up as a stray and taken to a shelter. She was about 10 months old at the time.
In early 2012, Honey was adopted, however her owner was unable to manage the energy of a 1 year old GSP, providing Honey with the training and exercise she required, and returned her a month later.
Shortly after Honey was adopted in January of 2012, Amy and Joe had seen Honey on our website and inquired about meeting her, and we told them she had been adopted. As disappointed as they were, they were just as elated when we told her she was back with the rescue and available for adoption. They wasted no time setting up an appointment to meet her, and fell completely in love. Honey had found her forever home with Amy and Joe in February of 2012.
Sadly, we just received the news that Honey has passed away at age 15. She lived the life every dog could ever dream of. She appeared on TV and in Magazines and was loved beyond measure. While our hearts are heavy, we are so grateful to Amy and Joe for all of the love and care they bestowed upon Honey for 13 years.
“I'm writing to let you know that our amazing, silly, beautiful, loving Honey-girl is no longer with us. We miss her deeply.
She was fifteen. She had a cancerous tumor in her liver and also in her jaw. She was doing pretty well, still wanting walks and eating, but then took a quick downturn. I had promised her no suffering, ever. We had a vet come to the house and she went out of this realm eating chicken. I am grateful to have been able to give her a peaceful passing.
She had a fantastic life spending time at the beach, mountains, and the forest. Great food. Lots of running. And a little glamour too, for her diva side. She was a TV star and supermodel.
Thank you CAGSP Rescue so very much for Honey. She was my soul mate. And thanks for everything you do for GSP dog beings. You guys are rock stars, and make the world a better place”.
Much love and appreciation,
Amy and Joe
“I sat down to write a poem for her, and instead, she wrote one to me:
Dear Amy, (from her dog Honey)
The night I passed, a wind kicked up its mighty feet.
Branches fell, deck pillows sailed across Mission Canyon and you cried for me.
Don’t be sad. I’m right here.
Just walk the paths we took together. Sniff the leaves of a Bay Laurel. Kiss a Redwood.
Make an altar. Float in the water. Chase things.
Chase love. Chase words and sentences and books.
Give my biscuits to other dogs, but not all of them!
I can still eat from the other side. I am every dog now.
Just keep walking. Hold our leash of stars, wind and thunder. Well, maybe not thunder.
Feel my head on your thigh when you sit in bed and look at Cathedral peak. Move your leg when it gets numb.
We still have our dance. Holy and humdrum.
Pure. Fresh water in a clear glass bowl”.
